European Yew and climate change in Iran

Understanding how climate change will impact key important tree species such as yew is a key priority for forest conservetion. That is even more challenging in refugia areas, where complex topography and paucity of data preclude such use. Here, a recently awarded PhD Kourosh Ahmadi, predicted the future habitat suitability in the Hyrcanian Forests (Iran), and compared key differences between modeling the global extent of the species presence versus its absence. Despite key differences, the climate suitable for the species in this key area is predicted to largely decrease.
